Peter reveals Jesus is the Messiah and is given the keys to the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 16:13 – 16:20).

When  Jesus arrived in the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say I am?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked, “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on

A thousand years of peace, then the final judgement of Satan and the wicked dead. (Revelation 20:1 – 20:15)

John saw an angel come down from heaven holding the key to the Abyss and a great chain. He seized the dragon (Satan) and bound him for one thousand years (a millennium). He threw Satan into the Abyss and locked and sealed it over him to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time. John saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given the authority to judge. He saw souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus. They had not worshipped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life

The parables of weeds, the mustard seed, the yeast, and the treasure (Matthew 13:24 – 13:52)

After Jesus explained why he used parables to present his New Testament message, he presented another parable to the disciples. “The kingdom of heaven is like a person who sowed good seed in his field. While everyone was sleeping, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat. When the plants sprouted and bore grain, the weeds also appeared. So the slaves of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Then where did the weeds come from?’ The owner said, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So the slaves replied, ‘Do you want us to go and gather the weeds?’ But he said, ‘No, since pulling up the weeds might uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow

The parable of the sower and why Jesus used parables – Christian development depends on character. (Matthew 13:1 – 13:23)

After chastising the Pharisees because they asked for a sign, Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. Large crowds gathered around him, so he got into a boat while the people stood on the shore. He told them many things in parables, including the parable of the sower. A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path and the birds came and ate it. Some fell in rocky places where there was not much soil. The plants sprang quickly but because the soil was shallow, when the sun came up the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns which grew up and choked

Fallen religious leaders – when your faith is shaken by another, ask yourself – “Who’s really in charge?”.

“Satan has asked to have you, that he might sift you like wheat.” Luke 22:31 When a religious leader or anyone else you hold in high esteem falters, it is only natural to be disappointed, saddened, and hurt. But it is weak allow their faith to be shaken by the acts of someone else. The Bible is clear, not just that Satan lies, but that his deception is unparalleled. 2 Corinthians 4:4 tells us that he is capable of blinding others “to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel” while 2 Corinthians 11:13 adds that Satan often “disguises himself as an angel of light”. Christians should understand that Satan will try to worm his way to them in ways we cannot imagine. It’s not just

Oklahoma City government building to be used for satanic black mass

Some Oklahoma City church leaders (and residents) are unhappy with the city for allowing a devil-worshiping group to use a public government building for a satanic black mass. On September 21, 2014, the Dakhma of Angra Mainyu will hold a satanic black mass and a “reverse exorcism” in the Oklahoma City Civic Center Music Hall. Tickets for the event have sold out. According to leaders, the ceremony will feature an altar-like table on which a woman clad in lingerie will lay. Leaders of the service say they would use obscene language while stamping and spitting on a unconsecrated communion wafer. The ritual will also feature a satanic exorcism, designed to banish the Holy Spirit from the follower's body. Organizers of the event amended their plans to

Rolling eyes and sideways glances – how America lost the Bible Belt

I have some news for you that may come as a surprise – the Bible Belt has been lost.  And it happened right under our noses. The belt, that once stretched from coast to coast, first shrank.  The erosion began on one end of the country (guess where) and continued to shrink, collapsing inward from the other end of the country (guess where), tightening the Bible Belt in a vice-like grip causing it to shrink smaller and smaller.  Fat with success and giddy with their newly available playtime, modern-America never even noticed that the belt was being lost.  We began to accept as the norm, more and more, what the Bible taught us not to do – substance abuse, lying, marital infidelity, sexual immorality.  Today the
