Revelation (book of)

A new heaven and earth are created after the defeat of Satan and the judgement of sinners (Revelation 21:1 – 21:27).

John saw “a new heaven and a new earth”. The first heaven and earth had passed away and there was no longer any sea. He saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, come down from heaven prepared like a beautifully dressed bride. He heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Look! God's dwelling place is now among the people and he will dwell with them. They will be his people and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain for the old order of things has ceased to exist.” The one seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new! Write this down for these

A thousand years of peace, then the final judgement of Satan and the wicked dead. (Revelation 20:1 – 20:15)

John saw an angel come down from heaven holding the key to the Abyss and a great chain. He seized the dragon (Satan) and bound him for one thousand years (a millennium). He threw Satan into the Abyss and locked and sealed it over him to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time. John saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given the authority to judge. He saw souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus. They had not worshipped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life

The woman sitting on the scarlet beast – the Great Prostitute of Babylon shows evil will fail and be conquered (Revelation 17:1 – 17:18)

One of the seven angels who held the seven bowls went to John and said to him, “Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute who sits by many waters. With her, the kings of the earth committed adultery and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.” The angel carried John away in the Spirit into a wilderness. John saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet and was glittering with gold, precious stones, and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. The name

The final apocalyptic plagues – the Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath are poured on the world (Revelation 15:1 – 16:21)

John saw in heaven another great and marvelous thing: seven angels with the seven last plagues. With these last plagues, God’s judgment is completed. John saw what looked like a sea of glass glowing with fire. Standing beside the sea were those who had been victorious over the beast and its image and over the number of its name. They held harps given to them by God and sang the song of God’s servant Moses and the Lamb. “Great and marvelous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are your ways, King of the nations. Who will not fear you, Lord and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have

The Song of the 144,000 – three angels deliver three messages of judgement for mankind (Revelation 14:1 – 14:20)

John saw standing on Mount Zion, the lamb and the 144,000 who had his name and the Father’s name written on their foreheads. He heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and loud thunder. Then he heard a sound like harpists playing their harps. The 144,000 sang a song before the throne, the four living creatures, and the elders. No one could sing the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. They were those who did not defile themselves with women, they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as first fruits to God and the Lamb. No lie was found in their mouths; they were blameless. Then

The woman flees to the wilderness while the dragon pursues her, intent on devouring her child (Revelation 12:1 – 12:17)

A great sign appeared in heaven – a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in labor. Then another sign appeared in heaven – an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on its heads. Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth so that it might devour the child the moment it was born. The woman gave birth to a son, one who will rule over all the nations with an iron scepter. Her child was snatched up

The sounding of the seventh trumpet – the time for judging the dead and rewarding God’s servants has arrived (Revelation 11:15-11:19)

The seventh angel sounded his trumpet and there were loud voices in heaven which said: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and his Messiah, and he will reign here forever and ever.” The twenty-four elders fell on their faces and worshipped God saying: “We give thanks to you Lord God, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign. The nations were angry, and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants and prophets and your people who revere your name, both great and small, and for destroying those who destroy the earth.” Then God’s temple in heaven was opened and within the temple was

The two witnesses prophesy for 1,260 days – then are killed and resurrected before the Antichrist takes power (Revelation 11:1-11:14)

John was given a reed (i.e. cane) to use as a measuring rod and told to go and measure the temple and the altar with its worshippers. Then the angel told John, “Exclude the outer court, do not measure it because it has been given to the Gentiles. They will trample on the holy city for 42 months. And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth… If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and consumes their enemies.” The angel told John that the two witnesses would possess great power. “They have the power to shut up the heavens so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying, and they have the

The angel with the little scroll – sounding of the seventh trumpet is halted and voice of the seven thunders sealed (Revelation 10:1-10:11)

After the sounding of the sixth trumpet, John saw another angel coming down from heaven. The angel was robed in a cloud with a rainbow above his head. His face was like the sun and his legs were like fiery pillars. He was holding a little scroll which lay open in his hand. The angel gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke. I was about to write what they said when a voice from heaven said, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said – do not write it down.” Then the angel standing on the sea and the land raised his right hand to heaven and swore by him who lives for ever and

The seventh seal – the sounding of the sixth trumpet releases plagues that kill one third of mankind (Revelation 9:13-9:21)

After the first woe passed, the sixth angel sounded his trumpet. John heard a voice emanate from the horns of the golden altar. The voice said to the sixth angel, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” And four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour were released to kill a third of mankind. The number of mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand. The horses and riders had breastplates that were fiery red, dark blue, and yellow as sulfur. The heads of the horses resembled the heads of lions and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and sulfur. A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke, and sulfur that came out
