The Book of Joel contains a superscript attributing authorship of Joel, son of Pethuel. It contains a lament over a great locust plague and severe drought, a promise of future blessings, and a note on coming judgment on God’s enemies. There are no explicit references in the book to datable persons or events and the date it was written is unknown but generally believed to be between 500 and 900 BC.
