The Book of Esther relates the story of a Jewish girl in Persia, born as Hadassah but known as Esther, who becomes queen of Persia and thwarts a genocide of her people. Oddly, ancient scrolls of Esther were given only one roller (as compared to the customary two-rollers, one fixed to each side of the scroll). Written around 400 BC, authorship is sometimes attributed to Mordecai but may be considered anonymous or possible written by the men of the Great Synagogue shortly after the events transpired. Some have attributed authorship to Nehemiah.
