The Kebar River (Kebar Channel or Chebar River) has previously been identified as the Chebar or Khabur River in what is now Syria.  However, more recent scholarship is agreed that the location of the Kebar Canal is near Nippur in Iraq.  The ka-ba-ru waterway is mentioned in the ancient Murashu archives discovered in Nippur.  It was part of a complex network of irrigation and transport canals that also included the Shatt el-Nil, a silted up canal toward the east of Babylon.  The biblical Kebar River should not to be confused with the modern-day Kebar River in Iran
