The Proverbs is a collection of proverbs related to life which raises questions of values, moral behavior, the meaning of human life, and right conduct. Dating a “collection of collections” is difficult and like includes proverbs several thousand years old.  Authorship likely includes several individuals but Solomon is uniquely qualified as the principal author and possibly the person who compiled later sections of the book from various sources.  The final two chapters of Proverbs identify Agur and Lemuel as authors but the identity of the men is unknown.
