Pope Leo XIV during an audience with the media

Pope Leo XIV addressed the faithful during his weekly General Audience at the Vatican, focusing on forgiveness, the transformative power of Christ’s Resurrection, and the Church’s mission to bring reconciliation rather than retaliation.

During his catechesis, Pope Leo XIV reminded listeners that God forgives without resentment and lifts up the brokenhearted. He contrasted human inclinations toward anger and revenge after trauma with Christ’s response to suffering, highlighting that Jesus emerged from the Resurrection without seeking retribution. Instead, Christ’s approach reflects meekness and a love stronger than betrayal.

The Pope reaffirmed that the center of Christian hope rests in the Resurrection. He explained that the Resurrection is not a “bombastic triumph” but a testimony of love’s ability to rise after defeat. The Risen Christ did not return to His followers to assert superiority but to offer peace and reconciliation.
