Righteousness refers to the ethical conduct of being good, typically by following religious laws. It derives from the Hebrew word “straightness”.  Righteousness (also called rectitude) is an important theological concept in Christianity. It is an attribute that implies that a person’s actions are vindicated, and can have the connotation that the person has been “judged” or “reckoned” as leading a life that is pleasing to God.  The word appears over 500 times in the Old Testament and over 225 times in the New Testament.
