The two Books of Kings present the biblical view of history of ancient Israel and Judah from the death of David to the release of Jehoiachin from imprisonment in Babylon.  At one time, the two books comprised a single book.  In some translations, both books of Kings were combined with both books of Samuel to comprise a four-part work call the Book of Kingdoms.  According to Jewish tradition, the author of Kings was Jeremiah around 586 BC.
